United Kingdom Manchester 2011 Day 14 – Day trip to Manchester for a Manchester United soccer match We checked into the European Hotel which was just walking distance from the train station, perfect for late returns and early train out! No frills room with the expected amount of space in London. Our train was leaving at 655am and we had to walk quite able 1km to Euston train station. Quite an empty train platform at this hour. Arrived in Manchester Piccadilly train station after about 2hrs. Boarded a bus to town for some sight seeing. Saw this really nice building of Lloyds Bank since 1915. Then another one of lovely architecture, the Manchester City Council. Just nearby is the entrance to Chinatown. Then towards Market Street. Looks like some market near Piccadilly Gardens We didn’t really have an itinerary for Manchester so we ended up in a huge shopping mall Manchester Arndale, like any Singaporean will do. Couldn’t help snap a shot with the ferris wheel in it. The cupcakes looked so yummy and so many to choose from. Another view outside Manchester Arndale. The Wheel of Manchester was actually portable and currently no longer at this location. And this cool building was the National Football Museum also just outside Manchester Arndale mall. Kinda reminded me of the flatiron building, doesn’t it? Then it was time for the soccer match! This was the view on the way to the massive Old Trafford stadium. Been the biggest Man Utd fan since young. Went here to get my tickets that I have won through a ballot as a Man Utd Club member . That’s me wearing my Centenary Jersey. Got my tickets, Fulham vs Utd! Walking to our seats, what an atmosphere! The seat view was a little far though. Love the electric feeling, the stomping of feet and singing and cheering when a ball is scored! Can’t get a shot of the goals and it felt a little weird when I was unable to see a replay. Full time score of 2 goals to nil, a home game win! We sat there even after the match to take in the atmosphere and the once-in-a-lifetime experience before I had to make myself leave unwillingly. Outside, most of the fans have left but there were still many like myself, hanging around and making memories. This was the bus (X50 ) that brought us back to and from the Old Trafford stadium to Manchester city center, Piccadilly Gardens. We took the tram back to the main train station for our train back to London. How it was like inside the tram. Settled for Angus beef burger for our dinner and the end of the an amazing day trip to Manchester.
