Kalambaka Kalambaka 2011 Day 12 – 2nd round of visit to the monasteries before heading back to Athens The weather was much better on the 2nd day of Kalambaka. We were out on our own and so we rented a scooter to go around. Our first monastery required us to do a little climbing using the old steps. A picture nearby depicted how it looked like long time ago. Holy Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapausas from the bottom The view as we made our way upwards. On the inside, looks quite cosy. A more modern kind of pulley system. They even had an elevator A little bell place built on another little peak. A beautiful view of the Kalambaka town. Another view with the dramatic peaks before making our way to the next monastery, Roussanou Monastery Steps to the highest part of Roussanou Monastery . Some of the architecture designs within. Wooden doors, probably since the first time it was built. View of the garden within. Quite a compact place. At the bottom of the stairs, this was where the climb to the Roussanou Monastery begins. View en-route to Varlaam Monastery . This was the entrance to the last of the 6 monasteries, Varlaam Monastery . View of the main monastery at the top while walking towards it. From the top, this is the rock that we had to walk around. A small bell tower on the compound inside. The old architecture of the building, some renovation ongoing. A difference of building blocks indicating the different times the buildings were built. Another panorama from the main building, a view of Roussanou Monastery . I thought this was just amazing, to have wood bent like that. The compound was quite beautiful with all these flowers. They had some form of pulley with track system too. One of the passageway at the monastery. The train station of Kalambaka Went here for some food near to our accommodation. Inside the Souvlaki Paradisos where we were the only customers. Chose a seat near the windows for the view. This was the amazing view! Appetizers Fillet and chips! Cake dessert Then we decided to use the scooter to go around somemore. Saw the UNESCO sign Then last panorama before returning This is the view of our accommodation Pyrgos Adrachti . Saw this cute little church built of stones.
